Texts & Textiles: Henry David Thoreau

Interested in an alternative to factory-made clothing? If you’re in the Austin area (or want an excuse to visit Austin), sign up for one of my upcoming free sewing workshops here!

Even a little bit of sewing will make you more mindful of your clothing: its source, its fit, the value of the labor that produced it. I think that learning to sew at least one garment can be a life-changing way to begin thinking spiritually, ethically, and joyfully about the purpose of clothing. After all, does clothing exist only to provide profit to corporations, or to make us more human? to tell the stories of our cultures? to represent our values? to create and sustain delight?
